Lake Titicaca, Peru’s Floating Islands

Lake Titicaca, which lies in Peru is a beautiful Lake full of numerous attractions and places to enjoy. The Islas Flotantes (Uros Floating Islands) is the name usually people called. The lake its self was completely built by men who has made from totora reeds. Totora reeds are harvested here on the lake; the Uros Indians have lived on these islands for years.
Every 6 months the islanders have to lift up all the houses and everything on the island in order to lay down new reeds, otherwise their homes will sink. It is a fantastic feeling to walk there. The whole things on islands are made from reeds: houses, boats and even souvenirs. The reeds stand the centre of the Uros peoples’ lives.
According to the official statistic data, currently there are 45 floating islands in the Bay of Puno. The number of islanders varies from island to island. They organize special and breathtaking tours around their island. Unfortunately, it is the only way for them to earn money that is why it is really difficult to think of such notions as culture and traditions while visiting the island.
